The courses also helped me learn how to best deal with certain children with specific disorders, which I believe will help me to be able to better communicate and teach children with mental disabilities in a way that they will best be able to understand and grasp the information being given to them. Being an elementary education and psychology major have helped me to drastically improve my teaching abilities, allowed me to have a better concept of what I would most likely be facing in the future when I accomplish my goals, and overall prepared me in almost every way possible to become a great teacher.
I have always had a heart for children, and for people who are less fortunate then I am, and face more hardships then any one person should have to face in a lifetime; therefore, I am drawn to children with disabilities.
In our society today, those with mental disabilities tend to be looked down upon, not only physically, but intellectually. However, mental disabilities are not something to be looked down upon; it is a hardship, that no child should have to face, but a hardship nonetheless, that can be overcome.
I hope that becoming a special education teacher for young children will enable me to teach students that are often times looked down upon intellectually by society. I would like to become a teacher that can show them support, patience, and believe in them so that hopefully they will believe in themselves, and be encouraged to face whatever hardships are ahead of them.
Mentally and physically disabled children are easily overlooked as candidates for educational programs. My hopes are that while teaching them, I will be able to open up more opportunities of higher educational programs, and eventually better job opportunities for these children; so that society can no longer look down on them intellectually. There are three main things I tend to focus my time on outside of school and family, volleyball, praise team, and missions trips.
I have played volleyball since the 7 th grade, and played on both my high school volleyball team, as well as on teams outside of school. Playing volleyball on a team pushes me strive to be better not only for myself, but for my teammates. Everyone at a religious school has morals and beliefs, and also probably want to help out other people as well, as opposed to a party school, where students generally don't care about anything.
This is why I hope that my involvement with a religious school will not only help me become a better person, but help others grow as well, by meeting people from all walks of life with one similar interest in mind.
My belief in God has certainly made me a very secure and well-adjusted person. It has also helped me relate to others and value things other than money. I believe that helping out others, whether it be with homework or with real life issues, is extremely important to one's well-being.
I have always been active in the community. For three years I volunteered at a day care center and loved every minute of it. Although I was too young to be employed there, I still wanted to include myself in any way I could.
I can assure you that I will proudly take advantage of any opportunity I have to participate in any way at this university. My current goals are, of course, to remain actively involved in the community. After months of serious thinking, I decided that between becoming either a registered nurse or a pharmacist, that I would love to be a pharmacist. Since I love science and I love helping people, this is a career that is ideal for me. Currently, I am enrolled at XXX Community College with a full course load, instead of completing my senior year of high school because I am preparing to enter the pharmacy program.
Although, right now I am focusing a little more on myself by preparing for college, reading, playing guitar, and spending time with my family, in the near future I plan to join a volunteer organization, or to rejoin the volunteer program at the hospital.
I know that attending a religious university will definitely strengthen my character. I realize that along with a quality education, I will also take home new experiences. I set weekly goals, listening to all my lectures and doing the tasks. Time management is very important when studying, I still will be working 40 hours a week and trying to do 2 units so the workload is very high.
I have found a routine that works well for me, I plan the week before when I will be studying and make sure I do listen to all my lectures and do my reading in that time. If I split all units up over 4 years and focus on passing each one each semester, it is a lot less daunting than saying I have to pass 16 units.
Another goal is that I go to the gym at least 4 times a week. It makes me feel great when I do get to work out so need to keep these positive goals. My long-term goal is to be a teacher, have a house and a family. All these goals link together, I will have to work very hard to achieve all this but when I become a teacher, I can then buy and house and start a family. About 6 months ago I was made manager that made me feel great, this is how a goal is suppose to make you feel when you achieve it.
